Media and assets
Replace visuals with uploads or URLs, regenerate AI footage, and search stock libraries — by template.
Every scene or segment can have visual assets — AI-generated clips, stock footage, uploaded images, or brand logos. The Media panel in the editor is where you swap and refine them.
Open the Media panel
Select a scene, then open Media in the right-hand context panel. You see the current asset, replacement options, and template-specific actions like AI regen.
Replace with URL
Paste a direct link to an image or video file. Vidquel validates the URL and shows a preview when the host allows hotlinking.
- Use HTTPS URLs for reliable loading.
- Prefer MP4 or WebM for video; JPG or PNG for stills.
- Check licensing — you are responsible for rights on external URLs.
URL preview failed
Some sites block hotlinking. If preview stays blank, download the file and use Upload instead.
Upload files
Upload from your computer for predictable playback. Supported formats include common image and video types up to your plan size limit.
- Click Upload in the Media panel.
- Choose image or video from your device.
- Wait for processing — a thumbnail appears when ready.
- Save the project before exporting.
Tip
Upload brand logos as PNG with transparency. They overlay cleanly on stock and AI backgrounds.
AI regeneration (Cinematic)
Cinematic templates include AI regen: describe a new visual and Vidquel replaces the scene clip without rerunning the full video pipeline.
- Open Media on a Cinematic scene and click Regenerate.
- Enter a visual prompt — subject, lighting, mood, camera angle.
- Preview variants and pick the best match.
- Regen uses credits separate from the base render — check balance first.
Writing regen prompts
Be specific: "Aerial shot of a rainy city at night, neon reflections, cinematic grade" beats "city video." Match the mood of your narration for cohesive storytelling.
Stock search (Freestyle)
Freestyle templates expose stock search inside the Media panel. Search by keyword, filter by orientation, and insert royalty-free clips or photos.
- Search terms should match the scene script topic.
- Filter vertical vs horizontal to match your platform preset.
- Preview in the scene before saving — crop may differ from thumbnail.
Minecraft and Social chat media
Minecraft scenes use layout backgrounds and character art more than full-bleed video. Social chat segments focus on chat UI chrome — wallpapers and avatar images.
- Minecraft — change background blocks and props in the Layout panel; media swaps are secondary.
- Social chat — set chat wallpaper and profile avatars per segment or globally.
- Neither template emphasizes stock video the way Freestyle does.
Aspect ratio and safe zones
Assets are cropped to your project aspect ratio. Vertical projects may crop horizontal stock; pick vertical-first media when possible.
Check safe zones
Important text or faces near the edge of a horizontal clip may be cropped in 9:16 exports. Use platform-safe templates or reframe in preview.
Per-scene vs project-wide assets
Most replacements are per scene. Some templates let you set a global background or watermark from project settings — those persist across scenes until changed.
Performance and caching
Large uploads slow preview. Vidquel caches processed assets after first load. If preview stutters, try a shorter clip or lower resolution source file.
Tip
For repeated brand intros, upload once and duplicate the scene across projects instead of re-uploading each time.
Licensing reminder
Stock from Vidquel search is licensed for use in exported videos within plan terms. Uploaded and URL-sourced media must comply with your own rights and platform policies.
Before export
Scan every scene for placeholder or broken media icons. Save after all swaps, then export — the MP4 embeds the assets currently attached to each scene.
