Scene editor
Edit narration, reorder scenes, adjust duration, swap media, and apply transitions before you export.
The scene editor is where you refine a generated draft into a publish-ready video. Every change is non-destructive until you export — adjust scripts, visuals, timing, and transitions scene by scene.
Editor layout
The editor has three main areas: the scene list on the left, the preview canvas in the center, and a context panel on the right that changes based on your template.
- Scene list — select, reorder, duplicate, or delete scenes.
- Preview — watch the current scene with subtitles and transitions.
- Context panel — script, media, layout, voice, or template-specific controls.
Save before export
Vidquel autosaves most edits, but always click Save before exporting or leaving the editor. Unsaved script or media changes will not appear in the exported file.
Save before export
Export uses the last saved state of the project. If you edited narration or swapped an image, save first — then export.
Tip
Look for the save indicator in the header. A subtle "Saved" confirmation means your latest changes are persisted.
Reorder scenes
Drag scenes in the list to change story order. The timeline updates immediately in preview. Reordering does not regenerate narration — text moves with the scene.
- Click and hold the drag handle on a scene row.
- Move the scene up or down in the list.
- Preview the new flow from the timeline scrubber.
- Save before exporting the new order.
When reordering affects timing
Total duration may shift slightly if scenes have different lengths. Check the duration slider on each moved scene if pacing feels off.
Duration slider
Each scene has a duration control. Shorten scenes for punchy pacing; extend them when narration needs more breathing room. Subtitles and transitions rescale to the new length.
- Minimum duration is set by narration length — you cannot cut below the voiceover.
- Extending a scene holds the last frame or loops subtle motion, depending on template.
- Social chat segments use fixed timing tied to message bubbles — see the timeline guide.
Edit narration and on-screen text
Click a scene to edit its script in the context panel. Changes apply to voiceover (when TTS is enabled) and subtitle text. Re-preview after edits to check sync.
Tip
Shorter sentences read better on mobile. Break long paragraphs into two scenes if subtitles feel crowded.
Transitions
Transitions control how one scene blends into the next. Available styles depend on your template.
Freestyle transitions
- Cut — instant change; best for fast-paced shorts.
- Crossfade — smooth blend between scenes.
- Slide and zoom — motion-based handoffs for energy.
Minecraft transitions
- Block wipe — themed transition matching the Minecraft aesthetic.
- Character cut — hard cut on dialogue beats between hosts.
- Camera push — subtle zoom between dialogue panels.
Apply transitions per scene boundary in the scene list or from the Transitions tab. Preview the handoff before exporting.
Per-template panels
The right-hand panel adapts to your template. Not every project shows every tab.
- Script — narration and subtitles for standard templates.
- Media — replace or regenerate visuals for the scene.
- Layout (Minecraft) — character position, background, and dialogue bubble style.
- Sound (Social chat) — pick sound packs and notification tones; no TTS tab.
- Voice — change speaker or regenerate narration for supported templates.
Minecraft layout panel
Minecraft templates expose layout controls for character placement, background blocks, and dialogue styling. Assign lines with each host’s prefix in the script panel; layout chooses who appears on screen.
Social chat panels
Social chat uses segments instead of traditional scenes. You edit message text, sender names, and sound packs — there is no voiceover tab. See the timeline guide for segment-specific behavior.
Preview and quality checks
Scrub through the full timeline before export. Confirm subtitles are readable, transitions are smooth, and no scene shows placeholder media.
- Play from the first scene to the last.
- Pause on each subtitle block — max two lines on mobile-safe templates.
- Verify branding, CTAs, and end cards on the final scene.
- Save, then proceed to Export.
Preview blank frames
Replacing media with a slow-loading URL can cause blank frames in preview. Use upload or stock search for reliable playback.
Keyboard and workflow tips
- Click a scene, edit, preview — repeat per scene rather than batching blind edits.
- Duplicate a scene to A/B test alternate hooks without regenerating the whole video.
- Use AI Studio for script suggestions, then paste changes into the editor.
